Pedestrian seriously injured in Bellingham crash, intersection closed for investigation

BELLINGHAM — A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Chestnut and South Main Streets on Friday evening.

Bellingham police and fire departments responded to the incident at approximately 6:38 p.m. after a vehicle turning from South Main Street onto Chestnut Street hit a pedestrian crossing the road.

The victim sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby trauma center for treatment.

The driver involved in the collision stayed at the scene and is cooperating fully with the authorities.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway by the Bellingham Police, with assistance from the CEMLEC Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials have not released any additional information as the investigation is active.

The roadway at the crash site is closed to traffic for accident reconstruction and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.

Local authorities extend their sympathies to the injured pedestrian and their family during this difficult time.
