1 min read

LAWRENCE — A 29-year-old man was fatally shot at Energy Lounge on Broadway, prompting city officials to suspend the nightclub’s operating license, authorities said Wednesday.

The incident, which occurred at the establishment located at 459 Broadway on Dec. 24, is currently under investigation by the Lawrence Police Department and Massachusetts State Police Detectives attached to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.

Acting Chief William Castro issued the suspension on Dec. 27, and the notice was delivered directly to the owners of Energy Lounge.

The measure was taken due to the ongoing investigation and the fact that the suspects involved in the shooting remain at large.

Castro emphasized that the closure was a necessary action in the interest of public safety and will remain in effect until the investigation is concluded.

The Lawrence licensing board will receive all pertinent information post-investigation and may conduct a hearing concerning the future of the nightclub’s license.

In the interim, Energy Lounge will be closed, and all operations at the location are ordered to cease.
