Keene man arrested in connection with vehicle theft, firearm recovered

KEENE — A local man was taken into custody by Keene Police on Thursday after reportedly stealing a large sum of money and a firearm from a parked vehicle.

The theft, which occurred on Railroad Street, was reported to the Keene Police Department on Dec. 27.

Following an investigation, officers identified the suspect as 35-year-old Leland Herrett of Keene.

Herrett was located and apprehended by patrol officers and detectives on Dec. 28.

He faces two counts of Theft by Unauthorized Taking, both class A felonies.

Currently, Herrett is being held at the Cheshire County House of Corrections and is scheduled for arraignment in Cheshire Superior Court on Friday.

Property linked to the victim was recovered following the arrest, according to the police.
