Newport, NH teen faces arson charges for setting fire to occupied building

NEWPORT, NH — In the early hours of Aug. 19, Newport Emergency Services responded to a reported structure fire on West Street, where firefighters extinguished a blaze inside an occupied building believed to have been set intentionally.

Following an extensive investigation that included multiple search warrants, interviews, and forensic examinations of digital evidence, 18-year-old Zackary Jenner of Newport, New Hampshire has been indicted by the Sullivan County Grand Jury on one count of Arson of an Occupied Dwelling.

According to the complaints, Jenner is alleged to have knowingly started a fire that unlawfully damaged another’s property, specifically an occupied structure he knew was inhabited.

This Class A Felony charge carries a potential sentence of 7.5 to 15 years in the New Hampshire State Prison.

The Newport Police Department, assisted by the Claremont Police Department and the Newport Fire Department, continues to investigate the incident.
