Fair Haven man charged with sexual assault of a minor

FAIR HAVEN — A local man was arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual assault involving a juvenile, authorities said Tuesday.

David Collins, 33, of Fair Haven, was taken into custody on Dec. 26 and held at Marble Valley Correctional Center without bail after an investigation by the Castleton Police Department and the Rutland Unit for Special Investigations.

The investigation began on Dec. 1 when the Castleton Police received allegations of sexual assault involving a minor.

According to the police report, Collins is accused of engaging in sexual acts with the juvenile and continuing these acts without consent after the victim reached the age of consent.

Collins appeared in Rutland Superior Court on Dec. 27 to face the charges.

The Castleton Police Department, respecting privacy laws and policies, has not released the name of the victim.

The arrest was made by Ptl. Joshua Piatek, who is part of the team investigating the case.

Authorities have not provided further details about the incidents or the ongoing legal process.
