Suspect arrested in East Boston murder case

BOSTON — A 20-year-old Everett man was arrested Friday morning in connection with a homicide in East Boston last week, police said.

Edwin Mendez Hernandez was taken into custody around 8 a.m. on Dec. 22, in the area of 20 Hancock Street, Everett, on a warrant for murder issued by the East Boston District Court, according to police.

Hernandez is accused of the fatal stabbing of Wilfredo Landaverde Arevalo, 34, of Medford, which occurred on Dec. 15.

Officers from District A-7 responded to a call at approximately 6:39 a.m. last Friday to 186 Gove Street, where they found Arevalo suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.

The victim was transported to a local hospital by Boston EMS and was later pronounced dead.

The Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the case, urging anyone with information to contact them at 617-343-4470.

Hernandez is expected to face charges in East Boston District Court.
