Inmate accused of assaulting correctional officer in Rutland

RUTLAND — An inmate at the Marble Valley Correctional Center is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a correctional officer, authorities said Wednesday.

Devin H. Hanson, 40, of Readsboro, is accused of striking Correctional Officer Mitchell Blair, 45, in the face, resulting in minor injuries.

The Vermont Department of Corrections reported the incident to Vermont State Police on Dec. 20.

Hanson, who is currently serving a sentence at the Rutland facility, could face additional charges for assaulting a protected professional.

The Vermont State Police are investigating the incident, and the Department of Corrections is expected to review the situation and implement any necessary safety measures to prevent further incidents.

Officer Blair, a Rutland resident, received medical attention following the assault and is recovering.

The Department of Corrections has not released further details about the altercation or any potential motives behind the attack.
