BOSTON — Two juvenile suspects will be charged following an assault on a group of elderly Christmas carolers on Johnston Street, authorities said Monday.

The assault occurred around 3:05 p.m. Sunday, when officers from District B-3 in Mattapan responded to reports of an ongoing assault and battery.

The elderly victims were part of a group singing outside a friend’s home when they were attacked from behind and punched multiple times in the back of the head, according to police.

Although a description of the assailants was provided, initial searches by the officers did not lead to an arrest.

The victims, who suffered the assault, declined medical treatment at the scene.

Following a thorough investigation, detectives were able to identify two juvenile males, aged 15 and 16, in connection with the assault.

During interviews conducted with their parents present, the juveniles admitted to their involvement in the incident.

As a result, detectives are moving forward with seeking criminal complaints from the Dorchester District Court.

The charges against the juveniles will include assault and battery on a person aged 60 or over.

The names of the minors have not been released due to their age.
