RICHMOND — Police say they encountered a collision on December 5, on Interstate 89 south involving two vehicles halted in the left passing lane.

After the trooper’s arrival, one of the vehicles left the scene, continuing southbound on the interstate.

The fleeing vehicle was subsequently traced and stopped in Bolton.

The driver, identified as Robert Stone, 47, of Barre, was then connected to the earlier incident.

Investigations indicated Stone had attempted to avoid a bumper in the roadway, which led to his vehicle being struck from behind by a car driven by Kristopher Mohlman, 45, of Montpelier.

Following the collision, police say Stone failed to remain at the scene as required by law.
