Tewksbury police arrest two for fentanyl trafficking at motel

TEWKSBURY — Police Chief Ryan Columbus announced the arrest of a man and woman on charges of fentanyl trafficking and other drug-related offenses following a surveillance operation at a local motel.

Moraima Perez, 48, of Lowell, and Jose Rivera, 57, also of Lowell, were taken into custody Tuesday after Tewksbury Police executed a search warrant at the Motel 6 located at 95 Main St.

During the search of a motel room, authorities found just under 60 grams of fentanyl, over 6 grams of crack cocaine, and $9,125 in cash, along with various drug paraphernalia.

Perez and Rivera were present in the room at the time of the search and were arrested on the spot.

Perez faces charges of trafficking fentanyl (36 to 100 grams), possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Rivera is charged with trafficking fentanyl (36 to 100 grams), possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance (subsequent offense), and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Both suspects are scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in Lowell District Court.
