Putney man arrested on warrant, linked to stolen vehicle investigation

PUTNEY — A local man was taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with active arrest warrants and a multi-state vehicle theft case, authorities said.

Windham County Sheriff’s deputies, in coordination with detectives from the Keene Police Department, descended on a property on Shag Bark Hill Rd. where they arrested 20-year-old Stephen R.

Mecheski without incident.

The arrest, which occurred on Dec. 12, was part of a broader investigation into a stolen vehicle from Keene, NH.

The vehicle had been tracked crossing state lines into Vermont and then returning to New Hampshire.

Following his arrest, Mecheski was lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility.

Further assistance was provided to the Keene Police Department in locating the stolen vehicle, and the investigation is ongoing.

Vermont authorities are actively seeking charges against an individual implicated in the vehicle theft.

Details regarding the identity of this individual or their connection to Mecheski have not been released at this time.
