Heavy police presence in Northfield, MA due to stolen ATV

NORTHFIELD — A heavy police presence was reported earlier today near Route 142 after Northfield Police Department responded to a call about a broken down ATV.

The operator of the ATV fled into the nearby woods when approached by the police.

The vehicle was suspected and later confirmed to be stolen.

Multiple area police departments and the Massachusetts State Police responded to the incident to establish a perimeter.

Erving Police Department’s K9 Ziva was deployed and successfully tracked the suspect.

The individual was located and subsequently transported to a local hospital due to concerns regarding their mental health.

Charges against the suspect are pending as the investigation continues.

Local authorities are advising residents that there is no ongoing threat to the community and are thanking the public for their cooperation during the incident.

The Northfield Police Department is expected to release more information as the case progresses.
