Driver faces DUI charges after crash into river in Wallingford

WALLINGFORD — A single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning resulted in a Bennington man facing charges for driving under the influence.

Vermont State Police – Rutland Barracks responded to the incident on US RT 7 near Hartsboro Road at approximately 3:01 a.m. where they discovered a 2003 Dodge Dakota partially submerged in Otter Creek.

The driver, identified as 52-year-old Raymond Scutt, was traveling northbound when his vehicle left the road and entered the water.

Troopers at the scene noted indicators of impairment.

Scutt sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center.

After processing, Scutt was released with a citation to appear in court at a future date to respond to DUI charges.

The Dodge Dakota suffered front-end damage, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
