Vermont State Police identify shooting victim, seek witness in East Calais incident

EAST CALAIS — Vermont State Police have identified Dylan Aaron Douglas, 29, of Windsor, Connecticut, as the victim of a shooting in the Town of East Calais late Monday night.

Douglas remains in stable condition at the University of Vermont Medical Center as of Wednesday night following the incident that occurred at 11:44 p.m. on Dec. 4.

Authorities continue to investigate but believe the shooting was an isolated event, posing no threat to the public.

As the investigation progressed, police sought to speak with Deborah Hemmings, 71, of Calais, who may have information pertinent to the case.

Following an appeal for public assistance on Tuesday, troopers located and spoke with Ms. Hemmings early Wednesday morning.

Anyone with additional information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the state police in Berlin or submit an anonymous tip online.

The Vermont State Police are committed to providing updates as the investigation continues.

The initial call was received late Monday, with first responders transporting Douglas to the medical center where he remains hospitalized.

His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
