Springfield police seize stolen gun from juvenile

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) detectives arrested three juveniles and confiscated a loaded, stolen firearm during a traffic stop near the intersection of State St. and MGM Way at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Acting on a tip that a 17-year-old was armed, FIU detectives, led by Sgt.

Christopher Hitas, located the suspect in a vehicle with four others.

Upon stopping the car, they found the firearm inside and determined it had been reported stolen from East Hartford, Connecticut.

The 17-year-old male believed to have possessed the gun was arrested along with the driver, also 17, who was driving without a license.

Additionally, ammunition was discovered in the sweatshirt of another 17-year-old male, resulting in his arrest.

The remaining two individuals in the car were released without charges.

The names and specific charges of the minors involved are not being disclosed due to their age.
