Charlotte woman arrested on suspicion of DUI, cited for speeding

CHARLOTTE — A 54-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a traffic stop for speeding in Charlotte, Vermont State Police reported.

On Nov. 30, at about 10 p.m., a trooper from the Williston Barracks observed a vehicle traveling at 69 mph in a 50 mph zone on US Route 7 at the intersection with Crosswind Drive.

The vehicle was stopped near Church Hill Road, and the driver was identified as Heather Abele of Charlotte.

During the interaction, troopers noted several signs of impairment.

Abele was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and was processed at the Williston Barracks.

Following processing, she was released with a citation to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court on Dec. 19 at 8:15 a.m. to respond to the DUI charge.

In addition to the DUI charge, Abele received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for the speeding offense.
