EASTHAM — A major motor vehicle accident involving four vehicles occurred on Route 6 by Hemenway Road this morning, resulting in serious but non-life-threatening injuries to two individuals.

At 7:36 a.m., the Eastham Police Department was alerted to the crash through multiple 911 calls.

Upon arrival, Eastham Officers and Fire Personnel found the roadway blocked by the vehicles and immediately began treating the injured and coordinating the closure of Route 6.

Assistance came from the Orleans and Wellfleet Police Departments, who helped manage the traffic and road closure.

The Eastham and Wellfleet Fire Departments transported the injured to Cape Cod Hospital.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a U-Haul box truck, heading northbound, inexplicably drifted into the southbound lanes, causing a chain reaction.

A southbound Chevy pick-up truck swerved to avoid the U-Haul but was hit on the passenger side, which led to it spinning into the northbound lane and being struck by a GMC pick-up.

The U-Haul then collided with a Toyota Sedan in the southbound lane before veering off the road and hitting a street sign.

All vehicles involved sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

The operator of the U-Haul truck faces pending charges in relation to the accident.

Route 6 was closed for approximately two hours during the treatment of victims, investigation of the incident, removal of the vehicles, and cleaning of the debris.
