BOSTON — Officers from the A-1 Drug Control Unit arrested a man Monday evening after he allegedly brandished an axe and a machete at a group of teenagers in downtown Boston.

The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. near Temple Place, where officers were conducting a drug investigation.

They heard a commotion and saw 51-year-old Israel Silva of Roxbury threatening the teens and challenging them to fight.

As the officers intervened, Silva reached into his pocket, pulling out a small axe to complement the machete he already wielded.

The group of teens fled in fear while the officers managed to de-escalate the situation and apprehend Silva without further incident.

A subsequent search revealed Silva was carrying 30 packets of K-2 Synthetic Marijuana, 16 Suboxone Strips, and a digital scale.

He faces charges including two counts each of assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon, along with intent to distribute Class B and Class C substances and disorderly conduct.

Silva is set to be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court.
