One dead, two injured following Route 4 crash in Killington

KILLINGTON — A fatal collision involving a car and a regional transit bus occurred on Route 4, leaving one dead and two others injured at approximately 12:26 p.m. Tuesday.

The Killington Police Department reported to the scene near 1894 Route 4 after a vehicle, driven by 71-year-old Mark J. Candon of Rutland, veered across the center lane into the path of an oncoming Marble Valley Regional Transit Bus.

Candon was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was the sole occupant of his vehicle.

The bus driver, 82-year-old Gary E. Gilmore of North Clarendon, and a female passenger sustained suspected minor injuries and were transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Authorities are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.

The accident response involved the Vermont State Police, State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, Regional Ambulance Service, Vermont DMV, and Killington Fire and Rescue Department.
