Child struck by vehicle near Auburn school, Oxford Street closed for investigation

AUBURN — A nine-year-old child was hit by a motor vehicle Thursday morning near a school at the intersection of Oxford Street North and Inwood Drive, Auburn Police Department reported.

The child, who was on their way to school, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital by Auburn Fire Rescue Department.

Authorities have closed Oxford Street to traffic as the Crash Reconstruction team and the UAV (drone) Unit conduct a thorough investigation of the incident.

While the investigation is ongoing, residents are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Auburn Police will provide updates as soon as Oxford Street is reopened to the public.

The Auburn Police Department has also issued a reminder for drivers to exercise increased caution, especially in school zones, to prevent similar accidents.
