Worcester teen arrested for early morning smokeshop burglary

WORCESTER — Worcester Police officers apprehended a 17-year-old male suspected of breaking into The Habibi Smokeshop on Main Street early Saturday morning.

At approximately 3:11 a.m. on Nov. 25, police were dispatched to the smokeshop at 650 Main St following reports of a commercial break-in.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect being subdued by a witness, who had noticed the establishment’s glass door shattered and took action when he saw the male entering the building.

The witness, who had been driving by at the time, confronted and detained the intruder until law enforcement arrived.

The police confirmed the witness’s account and found a tote bag containing stolen items and a hammer at the scene.

The juvenile has been charged with Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime for a Felony, Vandalism, Larceny from a Building, and Possession of a Burglarious Instrument.
