Two-vehicle crash in Orwell leaves three injured

ORWELL — A head-on collision between two vehicles on VT Route 22A sent three people to the hospital with various injuries on Nov. 26.

At about 8:13 a.m., Troopers responded to the crash near North Cross Road.

The accident occurred when Kareece Smith, 26, of Oneonta, NY, driving a 2021 Nissan Versa, attempted to overtake another vehicle on a curve and crossed into the oncoming traffic lane, colliding with a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Bradford Jones, 59, of New Preston, CT.

Smith, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained suspected moderate injuries and was taken to UVM Medical Center.

The Equinox, also with front-end damage and deemed totaled, contained two individuals who were both buckled up.

Driver Bradford Jones received minor injuries and was transported to Porter Medical Center.

His passenger, Paul Jones, 20, also from New Preston, CT, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to UVM Medical Center along with Smith.

Authorities stated that the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the incident.

Both vehicles were reported as totaled due to the front-end damage from the impact.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
