North Adams man arrested for firing gun during tavern brawl

NORTH ADAMS — A large fight at State Street Tavern early Thursday led to the arrest of a man who fired a gun during the altercation.

Officers responded to the scene around 12:40 a.m. after receiving reports of the disturbance.

They were informed that a man at the tavern was armed.

Upon arrival, police learned the suspect had discharged a firearm into the air.

The North Adams Police Department’s Detective Unit, which also responded, seized the man’s vehicle pending a search warrant.

After obtaining the warrant, a loaded Ruger .22 caliber handgun was found inside the vehicle.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was held on $50,000 cash bail.

He is scheduled for arraignment at Northern Berkshire District Court on multiple charges, including the discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a firearm without a license (second offense), possession of a loaded firearm without a license, firearms violation with two prior violent or drug-related crimes, and improper storage of a firearm.
