BOLTON — A two-vehicle accident on Interstate 89 early Wednesday morning resulted in the death of a 34-year-old Essex Town woman.

At approximately 7:11 a.m., Vermont State Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had veered off the rain-soaked roadway near mile marker 72.9.

Josephine Buckley had initially lost control of her Toyota Corolla, sliding off the wet interstate without sustaining injury.

Shortly afterward, Owen Benoit, 19, from St. Albans Town, lost control of his BMW 320i while traveling in the left passing lane.

His vehicle spun and struck Buckley’s car, which had come to rest on the side of the interstate.

Buckley, who appeared to be exiting her vehicle when the collision occurred, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Benoit, who was wearing a seatbelt, did not report any injuries.

The Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team has taken the lead on the investigation.

Authorities urge anyone with information that could assist the ongoing inquiry to contact the State Police at the Williston Field Station by calling 802-878-7111.

Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
