Hiker dies on Mt. Monadnock trail after medical emergency

JAFFREY — A 70-year-old hiker from Keene died Tuesday after suffering a medical emergency on Mt. Monadnock, authorities reported.

Kenneth Swymer Sr. collapsed around 11:15 a.m. while hiking on the Marlborough Trail.

Swymer’s close friend, who was with him at the time, called 911 and performed CPR until help arrived, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Despite the efforts of first responders and the friend’s continued life-saving measures, Swymer did not survive.

Conservation Officers, along with Police Officers from Troy and Jaffrey, Fire Fighters from Jaffrey, Keene, Dublin, and Swanzey, and Medical personnel from the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance Service responded to the call.

Volunteers from the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team also provided assistance.

The cause of the medical emergency has not been disclosed, and the incident remains under investigation.
