ALTON — A 70-year-old hiker was rescued Thursday after experiencing a medical emergency on Boulder Trail near Mt. Major.

New Hampshire Fish and Game received a distress call just before 10:30 a.m. from the nephew of Dover resident Larry Frizzell, who was able to dial 911 for assistance.

Frizzell and his nephew were approximately 1.5 miles from the trailhead when he suffered the emergency.

Members of the Alton and Gilford Fire Departments, Conservation Officers, and Lakes Region Search and Rescue (LRSAR) team responded to the call.

The rescue team reached Frizzell, who initially tried to walk by himself but was eventually carried out in a litter to a waiting utility task vehicle (UTV).

He was safely transported back to the trailhead by 1:30 p.m.

LRSAR, a volunteer organization, is known for its expertise in conducting search and rescue operations throughout New Hampshire.
