Shaftsbury man faces assault charges after Pownal disturbance

POWNAL — Vermont State Police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on US Route 7 early Sunday morning, where they say a local man committed assault and property damage.

Authorities were called to the scene at 1:52 a.m. and upon arrival, they discovered that Dennis M. Young, 53, of Shaftsbury, had allegedly physically assaulted Nathaniel Serre, 33, of Bennington, and damaged property at the residence.

In addition to Young’s assault, Sabrina Packard, 31, of Pownal was identified as a victim in the incident.

Following the investigation, Young was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division on Dec. 18 at 8:15 a.m. to face charges of simple assault and unlawful mischief.

During the incident, Serre was also arrested due to an outstanding failure to appear warrant from Bennington County related to a DUI charge.

Serre was transported to Marble Valley Correctional Facility after he was unable to post bail.
