Springfield police nab two for late-night car break-ins

SPRINGFIELD — Police arrested two men early this morning in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins in the downtown area, authorities said.

Eddie Alvarez, 36, of Springfield, and Anthony Lanzetti, 37, of Middletown, Connecticut, were taken into custody around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Bridge and Main Streets after officers responded to reports of car break-ins.

The Springfield Police Department received a call at about 12:10 a.m. regarding two individuals allegedly breaking into cars at Bridge and Chestnut Streets.

Responding officers found Alvarez on Bridge Street.

He matched the suspect description and was arrested.

Shortly thereafter, Lanzetti was located and apprehended at the intersection of Main and Bridge Streets.

Alvarez faces charges including breaking and entering a vehicle at nighttime for a felony and two counts of attempt to commit a crime.

Lanzetti is charged with breaking and entering a vehicle at nighttime for a felony.

The Springfield Police Department is continuing to investigate the incidents and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
