Monkton man arrested for domestic assault in presence of a child

MONKTON –– A local man was arrested Tuesday evening on charges of domestic assault committed in the presence of a child, according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers were called to a residence on Valley View Dr. at 7:15 p.m. following reports of a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered that Brian Cashman, 50, had allegedly caused bodily injury to another household member while a child was present.

Cashman was taken into custody and transported to the New Haven Barracks for processing.

Following the processing, he was conditionally released and issued a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division, the next day.

The Vermont State Police have not released the name of the victim, adhering to policies that protect the identity of individuals involved in domestic violence or sexual assault cases.

The incident highlights ongoing issues of domestic violence, with the added gravity of such acts being committed in the view of underage individuals.

The case is now pending further legal action as Cashman awaits his court appearance.
