Fair Haven man charged with negligent firearms storage

FAIR HAVEN — A local man was arrested earlier this month on charges of negligent firearms storage after his weapon was stolen and later recovered in the possession of two juveniles, authorities said.

Joshua G. Kruml, 46, was taken into custody on Nov. 2, following a police investigation that began with the report of a stolen firearm from a residence on Main Street on Oct. 1.

A few days after the theft, the firearm was found, and two juveniles were charged in connection with the incident.

The Fair Haven Police, led by Cpl. Edward Hunter, determined that Kruml allegedly failed to securely store the firearm, leaving it on a shelf in a manner easily accessible to the juveniles.

This act is a violation of state laws requiring the proper storage of firearms to prevent access by unauthorized users.

Kruml has been issued a citation to appear in Rutland District Court to respond to the charge.

The date for his court appearance has not been disclosed.
