Sunoco in Rutland Town robbed, suspect sought

RUTLAND –– Vermont State Police are on the lookout for a male suspect following a robbery at the Rutland Town Sunoco gas station on Sunday evening.

Authorities were alerted to the incident at the convenience store located at 117 US Route 7 at 6:20 p.m. Responding troopers from the Rutland Barracks discovered that a male individual had entered the store and demanded cash from the register but ultimately fled with only a stolen carton of cigarettes.

The suspect, who did not manage to obtain any money, was last seen leaving the premises on foot around 6:25 p.m. No injuries were reported in connection with the robbery.

The perpetrator is described as a white male, seen wearing a blue hoodie with black lettering spelling out “NEWPORT,” a tan “Peterbilt” baseball cap, tan sneakers, and blue jeans.

State Police have released still photographs from the store’s surveillance footage in hopes that members of the public may be able to assist in identifying the suspect.
