Man cited for retail theft at Waterbury store

WATERBURY –– A transient man was apprehended and cited for retail theft after a Nov. 5 incident at an Irving store, Vermont State Police reported.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., a male suspect entered the Irving located at 1 River Road and stole cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police – Berlin Barracks responded to the theft report at 7:22 p.m.

The suspect, identified as Richard Atkinson, 36, was caught on video surveillance and was quickly located by Barre City Police.

Atkinson has been cited for retail theft.

Following his apprehension, Atkinson received a No Trespass Order for Irving and is scheduled to appear at the Washington County District Court, Criminal Division, on Dec. 21 at 8:30 a.m.
