ST. JOHNSBURY — A 34-year-old man was arrested following an incident in St. Johnsbury yesterday.

Police say they observed a suspicious vehicle with its engine on and a non-responsive driver parked along Pierce Road at around 7:25 p.m.

Troopers approached the vehicle on foot and found the driver, identified as Phillip Greene, of St. Johnsbury, passed out in the front seat.

Several items, including open containers of alcoholic beverages, drug paraphernalia, and what was believed to be methamphetamine and fentanyl, were scattered inside the vehicle and in plain view to troopers.

Police say they entered the vehicle to assist the motorist who appeared to be having a medical emergency.

Troopers requested EMS personnel respond to the scene to provide Greene with any necessary medical treatment.

During the encounter, police say they clearly observed several signs of impairment.

Greene was taken into custody and transported to the Vermont State Police St. Johnsbury barracks for processing.

He was later cited to appear in court on February 26 for the charges of DUI drug, and possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
