FAIR HAVEN –– A 33-year-old Fair Haven man was arrested on charges of stolen property and narcotics possession, local police said Thursday.

Carl J. Stockwell was taken into custody on Oct. 27 following an investigation into a reported larceny that occurred on April 26, according to the Fair Haven Police Department.

Authorities were alerted to the theft of a firearm from a residence in Benson last April.

After a lengthy investigation, police developed information suggesting Stockwell was allegedly in possession of the stolen firearm.

The firearm was successfully recovered from Stockwell, leading to his arrest.

In addition to the stolen property charge, Stockwell was also arrested on a prior offense involving the possession of cocaine or crack, police said.

Stockwell was issued a citation to appear in Rutland District Court to answer to the charges.

The investigation was carried out by Chief William Humphries, Sgt. Dale Kerber and Cpl. Edward Hunter of the Fair Haven Police Department.
