Elderly pedestrian hit by truck in Ferrisburgh parking lot

FERRISBURGH — An elderly pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in a Ferrisburgh parking lot, resulting in suspected head injuries and hospitalization, according to Vermont State Troopers.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:11 a.m. on Oct. 30, in the Aubuchon parking lot on Monkton Road.

Juanita Simmons, 81, of Addison, had exited the store and began to cross the parking lot, believing it was safe to do so.

Simultaneously, Kenneth Lafountain Jr., 78, of Bristol, driving a 2023 Ford F-150, began to exit a parking space and struck Simmons.

Simmons was swiftly transported to UVM Medical Center with a suspected head injury.

Lafountain was unharmed, and his vehicle sustained no damage.

Vergennes Police Department and Vergennes Area Rescue Squad provided crucial support at the scene.

Authorities urge both drivers and pedestrians to remain cautious and aware of their surroundings.
