Suspicious death under investigation in Orange County

WASHINGTON –– A suspicious death in the town of Washington has prompted a full-scale investigation by the Vermont State Police.

The body was discovered around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, by hunters in the woods along Poor Farm Road.

Upon receiving the call, troopers promptly arrived at the scene and confirmed the individual to be deceased.

Preliminary assessments and evidence collected at the location indicate that the death occurred under unusual circumstances, thereby raising suspicions.

The state’s Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington will be conducting an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause and manner of death and to verify the victim’s identity.

The name of the deceased will be released to the public post the completion of the initial investigation phase and after the next of kin have been informed.

This case, which is still in its early stages, has drawn in multiple units from the Vermont State Police including the Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Field Force Division, Crime Scene Search Team, and the Victim Services Unit. As of now, no individuals have been taken into custody in relation to this case.

Troopers are rigorously working on gathering and processing evidence at the scene.
