Shooting in Shaftsbury leaves one injured, police seek information

SHAFTSBURY — A late-night shooting incident in Shaftsbury has left one man injured and another with non-gunshot related injuries, prompting an investigation by the Vermont State Police.

Around 11:03 p.m. on October 23, Vermont State Police were alerted to a shooting incident at 170 Twitchell Hill Road following a 911 call.

Upon arrival, officers identified Joseph Maccioli, 33, with a gunshot wound.

A second individual, Nicholas Baker, 25, was also injured but not due to a gunshot. Baker declined medical assistance at the scene.

Maccioli received immediate attention from the Bennington rescue squad and was later airlifted to Albany Medical Center. He is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

At present, the identity of the shooter remains unknown, and no arrests have been made.

However, the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Field Force Division are diligently working on the case, emphasizing that this appears to be an isolated incident.

Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that may lead to identifying the perpetrator or aid in the investigation.
