Fatal crash in Mendon

MENDON — A 71-year-old man from Killington was killed during a two-vehicle crash in Mendon yesterday.

The crash took place on US Route 4, in the area of Old Turnpike Road, at around 3:45 p.m.

According to the report, Rex Winney, 58, of Killington, was traveling east on US Route 4, in the area of Old Turnpike Road, while Jon M. Lantman, 73, of Fitchburg, MA, was traveling west on US Route 4 toward Old Turnpike Road.

Police say Lantman attempted to turn left onto Gateway Court while traveling west.

He collided with Winney.

Lantman and his juvenile passenger were transported by Regional Ambulance Service to the Rutland Regional Medical Center for serious injuries.

They were both later transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for further medical treatment.

Winney was transported by Regional Ambulance Service to the Rutland Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Police say Greene, the passenger in Winney’s vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

State Police were assisted on the scene by Regional Ambulance Service, the Rutland City Fire Department, and the Killington Police Department.
