Inmate dies at Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility

BERLIN –– The New Hampshire Department of Corrections is investigating the sudden death of an inmate at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin.

Correctional staff found the inmate, who was residing in the health services unit, in distress around 4:00 a.m. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Although the death is not deemed suspicious, the investigation into all aspects of the incident is ongoing.

The Department of Corrections has sought assistance from the New Hampshire Department of Safety Division of State Police, following normal protocol.

The New Hampshire Department of Justice Office of the Attorney General has also been notified as per standard procedure.

Further details, including the identity of the deceased inmate, will be withheld until next of kin have been notified and an autopsy has been conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
