Driver charged after clocked doing 97 mph on I-89 in South Burlington

SOUTH BURLINGTON — A 44-year-old man from Wolcott was cited for negligent operation following an incident in South Burlington yesterday.

Police say they were traveling south on I-89 at around 7:45 p.m.

While the trooper was traveling south, a white pickup truck was observed following an unrelated vehicle too closely in the left lane.

The unrelated vehicle then merged into the right lane and the white pickup truck increased its speed to 97 miles-per-hour in a posted 55 miles-per-hour speed limit zone.

Police initiated a traffic stop and the driver was identified as Justin Bertrand.

Bertrand was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for speeding with a waiver penalty of $627 and was released with a citation to answer the charge at a later date and time.
