Sullivan County resident charged with theft of items from cemetery grave site

NEWPORT –– A 40-year-old Newport, New Hampshire resident was arrested and charged with two counts of Theft by Unauthorized Taking after reportedly stealing grave markers and other memorial items from a family member’s grave site in the Oak Street cemetery in June, according to local police.

Kristi Orcutt was implicated following a thorough investigation by Newport Police Officers, which involved interviewing witnesses and executing search warrants.

The complaints allege that during the month of June, Orcutt obtained or exercised unauthorized control of items left at the grave site of a deceased person.

The charges against Orcutt are Class A Misdemeanors.

She has been released on personal recognizance bail pending her appearance in the 5th Circuit Court for arraignment.

The police investigation began when a resident reported the thefts from the Oak Street cemetery.
