NASHUA –– A 22-year-old man was arrested on Monday morning after attempting to steal an AMR ambulance while the crew was on a medical call on East Hollis Street, Nashua police reported.

AMR personnel contacted dispatch after discovering Anthony Lamontagne sitting behind the wheel of the ambulance, turning the steering wheel.

Officers arrived on the scene to find Lamontagne still in the vehicle, according to Sgt. John Cinelli of the Nashua Police Department.

Cinelli stated Lamontagne didn’t appear to have tried to drive away with the ambulance, but when confronted by fire personnel, he attempted to leave the scene and was detained.

“No one was injured and there was no damage to the ambulance,” Cinelli added.

Christopher Stawasz, the director of AMR Government Affairs, confirmed the ambulances are equipped with anti-theft devices which were effective in this incident.

Lamontagne was arrested on a misdemeanor unauthorized use charge.

He was processed at the Nashua Police Station before being released on bail.
