Massachusetts man drowns attempting to rescue family in New Hampshire river

ALBANY –– A 37-year-old Massachusetts man drowned Sunday after attempting to rescue his wife and child from fast moving currents in the Swift River, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Vincent Parr of Lawrence, Massachusetts was swept away by the current around 12:33 p.m. on August 20, 2023, after his wife and child became stuck in the water near the Passaconaway roadside, east of the Albany covered bridge.

Both the mother and child managed to reach the shore with the help of bystanders, who also assisted in bringing Parr to the shoreline.

Despite attempts to resuscitate Parr through CPR, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is currently under investigation with the New Hampshire State Police calling for witnesses or anyone with additional information to contact Marine Patrol Lieutenant Crystal McLain at (603) 227-2113.
