Sheriff warns of active telephone scam in Sullivan County

1 min read

CLAREMONT –– Sheriff John Simonds issued a public notice about an active telephone scam falsely claiming representation from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Simonds, a caller with a southern accent, posing as “Sergeant Davis” of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, has been contacting residents about supposed confidential legal matters. The Sheriff’s Office, however, does not employ anyone by the name of Sergeant Davis.

The scammer first made contact with a citizen, leaving a voicemail requesting a conversation about confidential legal matters.

Simonds advises residents to remain vigilant and to not provide any personal information if they receive a call from this scammer or any other suspicious number.

Sheriff Simonds encourages anyone who receives such a call to report it immediately to the local authorities.
