Middlebury man faces second DUI charge after traffic stop

MIDDLEBURY –– A 55-year-old Middlebury man was arrested and charged with his second DUI after being pulled over by state troopers late Friday night.

Alfred Churchwell Jr. was stopped on Court Street in Middlebury by troopers from the New Haven Barracks, according to a Vermont State Police report.

While interacting with Churchwell, troopers noticed several signs of impairment.

He was then screened and subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Churchwell was transported to Vergennes Police Department for processing.

Following his release, he was issued a citation to appear in the Addison County Superior Court on September 25, to answer to the charge of his second DUI.

The incident marks Churchwell’s second DUI offense. Details about his first DUI charge were not immediately available.
