Danville man shot and killed, police looking for suspect

DANVILLE — Police are continuing to investigate a shooting that took place in Danville on Saturday.

The deceased man is identified as Wayne Payton, 50, of Danville.

An autopsy performed Sunday, at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington determined his cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death is a homicide.

The injured man is identified as Tellurian Surles, 23, of Danville.

He remains hospitalized at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Police say they have not located a suspect at this time.

The Vermont State Police’s Crime Scene Search Team has finished processing the residence on North Danville Road where the shooting occurred.
