JEFFERSONVILLE — A 23-year-old man from South Burlington was charged following a crash in Jeffersonville yesterday.

The single-vehicle crash took place on Vermont Route 15 at around 6:10 p.m.

Police say the crash resulted in the vehicle catching on fire.

Nicholas Mellish was able to safely exit the vehicle.

A short time later the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire.

The vehicle was a total loss, police say.

Police say that prior to crashing, Mellish was traveling west on Route 15, and at the intersection of Church Street, he crossed the eastbound lane, left the road, and crashed into the utility pole.

A vehicle parked near the utility pole was also damaged after being hit by the sheared off pole.

Green Mountain Power responded to the scene and to replace the pole.

Police say the crash caused traffic delays in the area for about 30 minutes.
