Motorcyclist killed during crash in East Montpelier

EAST MONTPELIER — A 33-year-old man from Plainfield was killed during a crash in East Montpelier yesterday.

The incident took place on Vermont Route 214 at around 6:30 p.m.

According to the report, Joshua Barnett was traveling south on a Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 prior to the crash.

Barnett lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to skid into the northbound lane.

He collided with Matthew Gosselin, 55, of Montpelier.

Both vehicles came to a position of rest along the shoulder of the northbound lane.

Barnett was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Gosselin was found to be operating with a criminally suspended license.

He was also found to be operating under the influence of alcohol.

Gosselin was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Berlin barracks for processing.

The road was closed for approximately 5 hours while crews including the Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team were on the scene.

An investigation is active, police say.
