Rutland City police officer killed during multi-vehicle crash

RUTLAND — A fatal multi-vehicle crash that involved an on-duty Rutland City police officer is currently under investigation by the Vermont State Police.

The tragic incident took place today at around 3 p.m. on Woodstock Avenue, also known as U.S. Route 4, near Deer Street in Rutland.

The Vermont State Police Field Force Division and Crash Reconstruction Team are spearheading the investigation, which is still in its initial phases.

The name of the deceased officer from Rutland City will be disclosed as the investigation progresses.

Following the incident, Woodstock Avenue has been closed off from Deer Street to Temple Street. Local residents and commuters are advised to anticipate delays in the area or opt for alternate routes.
