BERKSHIRE — A local 16-year-old died early Sunday morning in a single-car crash on Water Tower Road, according to the Vermont State Police.

Carson Smith, the only person in the vehicle, was ejected from his 2004 Toyota Tundra after he apparently lost control of the truck and overcorrected while navigating a slight hill.

The vehicle then skidded nearly sideways, left the road and overturned several times, police said.

The crash was reported at around 4:45 a.m., under overcast skies and light rain that left the blacktop road surface wet.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Members of the Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, the Berkshire Fire Department, and Enosburgh Rescue all responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Authorities are asking anyone who had recent contact with Smith to contact the Vermont State Police.

No further information is available at this time.
